Amamoor State Forest

Amamoor features dry eucalypt forests with riparian rainforests fringing Amamoor Creek. All three recreational areas are located beside the picturesque creek.

The creek provides important habitat for many animals including platypus, which are active during dusk and dawn busily forage for food, and several rare and endangered frogs.

There are excellent locations along the creek to birdwatch and, if you’re lucky, spot platypus swimming in the creek.

The surrounding state forest produces some of the best plantation hoop pine in Queensland.

Two camping areas are provided in Amamoor State Forest—Cedar Grove camping area and Amamoor Creek camping area.

Several graded walking tracks offer the chance to explore remnant dry rainforests and pine plantations, view the cascading creeks, picturesque waterfalls and waterholes within Amamoor State Forest. Find out more about walking in Amamoor State Forest.

Picnic facilities are provided beside Amamoor Creek at Amama day-use area. Facilities include individual fire rings, picnic tables, toilets and non-potable tap water. Bring your own fuel stove or clean, milled firewood.
