Forage Gympie Region is an initiative that aims to introduce our local producers, growers and food-based businesses to the rest of the Queensland.
Forage Gympie Region takes on an events and activities format over the month of May. Many of the region’s premier food and agribusiness operators have signed on to deliver a true paddock and farm gate to plate experience.
Below you’ll find a listing of events that will take place from 1st – 30th May 2021.
Please note that each event has their own booking details.
We’d love for you to stay in our Region for a couple of nights and combine events together.

Cooloola Farmers Trail

The Cooloola Farmers represent quality small scale farms in the Cooloola region, committed to sustainable food production and nurturing a local and seasonal food culture. Each farm has a unique experience.

6th Annual Big Rosella Festival
Saturday 1 and sunday 2 May
It’s that time of year again when the Petersen’s Farm in Woolooga, north-west of Gympie celebrates “All Things Rosella” at the 6th Annual Big Rosella Festival.
Husband and wife team CC and Greg Petersen started the festival in 2016 as a way of educating the public about the Rosellas, and support the local community. There are over 2,500 Rosella bushes planted, known as the only commercial grower in Australia.
Welcoming the public to the farm means they can share their passion and knowledge for not just farming, but for the versatile and tasty Rosella. Check out CC’s complete Rosella range featuring more than 30 products from jams, to chutneys, cordial and syrups.
With chef’s cooking demonstrations, farm tours and talks, music, local food, market, craft and producers stalls, raffles, Rosella theme games and kids activities, there really is something for everyone.

Paella in the Paddock

Gather friends and family to enjoy a country drive and join us for our Paella Sunday with live music. The chicken chorizo paella (GF) features locally produced chorizo. Full cafe menu is also available. Try our locally grown food, delicious ciders, lemonades and craft beer.
Experience the flavours of our yummy pancakes, waffles and scones topped with our jam and handcrafted ice-cream. Cooloola Berries is en route to Rainbow Beach and Tin Can Bay so it’s a great place to stop in if you’re heading out for a day trip.

The Rattler Tasting Train

Forage Farms Farm Tour
Saturday 8 May
Come and meet the Forage Farms team and take a tour around the farm. Owners Stuart and Megan, along with their boys Hamish and Lachlan, will guide you around their beautiful and productive farm. Learn about our regenerative farming philosophy from third generation regenerative farmers.
See our chickens, pigs, sheep, cattle and Maremma dogs in action. Our family farm operation ethically produces eggs, pork, lamb and chicken creating a new paddock to plate experience. Discover the difference between pastured produce and free-range.

Come along to our local show and enjoy thrilling rides in sideshow alley, marvel at the tractors, trucks, cars and farming equipment on display in Machinery Alley and get close and personal with the animals in the animal nursery. Be amazed by show jumping, barrel racing, bull riding, cattle judging and more in the Main and Rodeo Arenas. Embrace the creative side of our community at the pavilion and don’t forget to grab a show bag!

New Moon Dinner

The New Moon is the start of a new period and what better way to start than with a meal celebrating fresh local produce and the pleasure that comes from coming together to eat. Drinks available for purchase on the night.

Fermenting and Gut Health

Join nutritionist, farmer and passionate fermenter Victoria Kane for a hands-on workshop on fermentation. Learn about the health benefits of incorporating fermented foods into your diet plus the do’s and don’ts of home fermentation. Cost includes lunch (with ferments of course!) and a take home jar to kick start your own fermenting journey.

Join us for a relaxed evening in Amamoor sampling many of the flavours from the Mary Valley and Gympie region. Enjoy a relaxed food service, with multi course, individual hot and cold tasting plates; informal seating, outdoors at tables or on hay bales by a fire pit under the night sky (In the case of wet weather the event will take place in the lodge in front of a log fire. Baupal Park Farm Tour

Baupal Park Farm is an organic macadamia farm situated in Chatsworth. Established in 2018, it has grown in reputation to produce delicious value-add products from its macadamia and organic vegetable crops.
The farm is unique in its approach to utilising natural microbe cultures to improve yields. Come and visit this unique property, take a tour and learn about natural farming.

goomeri pumpkin festival

Celebrating its 25th birthday, the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival is one of the quirkiest festivals in Queensland. Located west of Gympie, this three-day festival grows the small town of Goomeri; a population of 650, to well over 18,000!
Dedicated to all things pumpkin, this festival showcases a variety of stallholders, food vans, artists, celebrated chefs and the unmissable Great Australian Pumpkin Roll™ down Policeman’s Hill. You’ll be entertained from dawn to dusk.
